What is Family Constellations?

Have you ever come across the term "Family Constellations" and wondered what it means?

As a Family Constellation therapist, let me explain this transformative process to you.

Family Constellations is a deeply therapeutic approach that operates under the premise that family patterns, behaviours, beliefs, outcomes, and unresolved trauma can be passed down from one generation to the next, often unconsciously.

To help illustrate this concept, let's use the example of the ‘Stolen Generations’. Imagine an indigenous Australian girl removed from her family by government authorities in the late 1800s. She grows up feeling unloved and unwanted in her adopted family and turns to alcohol to numb the pain.

As an adult, she has a baby girl who also grows up feeling unloved and unwanted, leading to her own struggles with alcoholism.

Now, imagine the next generation, a baby boy, is you. You’re also an alcoholic and since a young age felt you ‘didn’t belong’.

You decide to turn to a Family Constellation therapist for help.

During the session, you uncover a family secret, your grandmother was a child of the Stolen Generations. This realisation helps you understand the hardship your grandmother faced and the trauma that shaped her life.

With this new understanding, you recognise the pattern of addiction and exclusion that has been passed down through generations.

The session allows you the opportunity to symbolically hand back to your grandmother the burden of addiction and exclusion. This burden is something you have carried throughout your life, that doesn’t belong to you.

As a result, you feel lighter and more connected to your family, and your desire to drink lessens over time.

Family Constellations is a powerful tool used to uncover and acknowledge our family history, bring to light hidden dynamics and repeating generational patterns that shape our lives.

This therapeutic process provides deep healing and resolution for a variety of issues, such as relationships,

health, finances, career, business and personal development.
